Import your CV into your Cinode profile

Quickly populate your profile and refine it with manual editing or AI support

Written by Camilla Ahgren

Your Cinode profile is the foundation for presenting your professional experience. Importing a CV is the fastest way to populate your profile with structured content that you can review, adjust, and improve afterwards.

⏳ The import process may take a few minutes to complete. We have recently improved the import to make the results more accurate, so please be patient while the system processes your CV.

To use CV import, you need access to your personal profile in Cinode. No additional modules are required.

Before Importing

Before uploading your CV, make sure the following requirements are met:

  • Your profile must be empty or contain only skills
This applies regardless of the CV language.

  • A CV can only be imported in one language at a time.

If your profile already contains other information, the import option will not be available.

How we import CV content

Cinode analyses the structure and content of your CV and maps it to profile sections. Understanding how this works will help you achieve better results.

General structure tips

  • CVs with a simple, linear layout are imported more accurately than those with complex designs.

  • Two-column layouts or sidebars may cause text to merge or be interpreted incorrectly.

  • Role title, dates, company, and description work best when presented in the following order:
Role title → Date → Company → Description

  • If the company name appears first, content may be imported into the Presentation section instead of Projects and assignments.

  • LinkedIn profiles exported as PDF files are often well structured and usually import well.

Employers section

If your CV contains a separate list of employers, each employer may be imported as a separate project or assignment. This is often not desirable, which is why employer-only sections are commonly removed before import.

What is imported and when

Cinode applies specific rules when importing content from a CV:

  • Presentation
Imported only if the Presentation section is empty in the current language.

  • Skills and Languages
Always added from the CV (append-only).
You can choose to exclude skills during import by using the skills checkbox.

  • Work experience, Education, Training
Imported only if the corresponding section is empty.

  • Employers
Imported only if the section is empty and AI-based parsing is used.

  • Not supported for import
Other skills, References, Commitments, and Publications must always be added manually.

Import your CV

  1. Go to Home → Profile.

  2. Click the green button on the right to import your CV.

  3. Upload your CV in PDF or Word format.

  4. Wait for the import to complete.

Review and improve your profile

After the import, review each profile section carefully.

  • Click the pen icon to edit text and dates.

  • Add missing information manually where needed.

You can also use Cinode’s AI tools while editing:

  • Improve to rewrite and enhance text

  • Translate to create versions in other languages

  • Characters to adjust length and tone

Manual editing and AI tools work together to help you create clear, professional, and client-ready content.

Saving changes

  • Save updates only the current CV.

  • Save to many… updates multiple CVs and/or the profile.

If you only have one CV, the profile and CV mirror each other and use a single Save option.
If you have multiple CVs, you can choose which CVs to update when saving.

Language handling

Changes made in one language do not update other languages. Each language version must be reviewed and edited separately.

What is not imported

The following sections are never included in the import and must be added manually:

  • Consultants profile picture

  • Other skills

  • References

  • Commitments

  • Publications

Troubleshooting import issues

If your import did not go as expected, use the sections below to identify and resolve the most common problems.

Import appears to complete but nothing was added to my profile

This usually happens when your profile already contains content in the relevant sections. Cinode only imports into empty sections — if Work experience, Education, or Presentation already have entries, those sections are skipped.

  • Check each profile section to confirm it is truly empty before importing.

  • If sections already have content, remove it first, then re-run the import.

  • Skills are always appended — they are never skipped, even if the section is populated.

Content imported but is not appearing in my CV

Profile content and CV content are separate. Importing populates your profile — you still need to sync or copy that content into each CV.

  • Open your CV in the CV editor.

  • Use Copy to CV (or the arrow next to it) to pull the imported content into the CV.

  • Check that the visibility toggle for each section is turned on in the CV editor.

  • If the CV is in a different language than the import, add translations in your profile first.

Changes I made to my profile are not updating my CV

Profile edits do not automatically push to existing CVs. You must sync changes manually.

  • In the CV editor, use Save to many… to push a profile change to one or more CVs.

  • For Highlighted projects, use the Copy to CV arrow to copy the specific fields you want to update.

  • If you only have one CV, the profile and CV share a single Save — changes should reflect immediately after saving.

Formatting was lost or content looks wrong after import

Cinode extracts plain text from your CV — rich formatting (columns, tables, text boxes, graphics) does not transfer.

  • Two-column layouts and sidebars are the most common cause of merged or misplaced text — simplify your source CV layout before re-importing.

  • If company names appear before role titles, work experience may land in Presentation instead of Projects. Re-order the structure to: Role title → Date → Company → Description.

  • Review and manually clean up any sections that look incorrect after import.

Import option is not available

The import button only appears when your profile is empty or contains skills only. If other content already exists, the option is hidden.

  • Remove any existing profile content (except skills) to make the import option available again.

  • If you have already imported once and want to re-import, contact Cinode Support to reset your profile.

Still stuck? Contact support

If none of the above resolves your issue — for example, if the import appears to run but leaves your profile completely empty, or if a re-import is needed — contact Cinode Support with your CV file attached so the team can investigate.

Quick tips

  • Use a simple CV layout to avoid import issues.

  • Always review imported and AI-generated content before sharing.

  • Create separate CVs for different customers instead of repeatedly editing the same CV.
