Project Roles

In Cinode, a project role represents a specific assignment or responsibility within a project, typically intended for a consultant, employee, or subcontractor. Roles are a core component of project planning and resourcing, allowing you to define required skills, availability, and workload. Each project can have one or more roles depending on the needs and scope of the engagement.

Relationship Between Projects and Roles

Projects sit at the top level in Cinode’s hierarchy. Within each project, you define one or several roles, which represent the individual consulting needs tied to that specific project. Each role is independent but linked to the parent project. This structure enables you to manage resources, assign people, track utilisation, and forecast revenue at both the project and role level.

For example:

  • Project: “Website Redesign for Client X”

    • Role 1: UX Designer – 50% over 2 months

    • Role 2: Frontend Developer – 100% over 3 months

    • Role 3: Project Manager – 25% over 3 months

This setup allows each role to have unique attributes such as duration, rate, required skills, and assigned individuals, while still rolling up into the overall project timeline and budget.

Add a Role

  1. Go to Projects > List / Pipe or open the project via the Planner view, Skill Search, or Skills Report.

  2. Select the project and open the Overview.

  3. Click on the Roles tab, then the "+" icon to add a new role.

Available Fields

  • Title (mandatory)

  • Description

  • Start and End Dates (mandatory for utilisation and order value calculations)

  • Extension Option Date (informational only)

  • Verbal Agreement Date (informational only)

  • Rate – Hourly or Fixed (optional but impacts revenue forecasting)

  • Extent – Percent or Hours (affects utilisation rate calculations)

If you're planning to announce the role, you may skip assigning a person at this stage and continue to Announcing Roles.

Adding Skills Requirements to a Role

Adding skill requirements allows for better consultant matching and enhances searchability when announcing roles. Use predefined skill sets or enter skills manually.

Using AI to Add Role Skills

Cinode's AI feature can suggest relevant skills based on the role's title and description. These can help match candidates more effectively.

Assigning Employees or Sub-Contractors

You can assign individuals in two ways:

  1. Directly Type the Name of the employee or contractor.

  2. Use the Matching Function to find suitable candidates.

You may book them as:

  • Preliminary – with optional booking status.

  • Definitive

Adding a New Customer During Project Creation

You can add a new customer directly within the project creation flow:

  1. In the Customer field, type the customer's name and click the "+" button.

  2. Enter the name and description, then click Save.

Quick Booking via the Drawer

When viewing a consultant in Planner, Skills Search, or Skills Report, click their name to open their profile in the right-side drawer. From there, you can:

  • View profile details

  • Book the consultant

  • Create a new role

Click "Add a new role" to proceed with booking and role creation.
