How can I manage competencies in Cinode, including fixing errors and adding new ones?

Written by Rania Haddad

Managing competencies effectively in Cinode involves correcting errors in existing entries, adding new competencies when needed, and addressing CV template-specific issues such as saving skill phrases with special characters or managing competency visibility. Below are the steps to address these common scenarios:

Correcting Misspelled or Duplicated Competencies

If you encounter a misspelled or duplicated competence in Cinode, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the Incorrect Entry: Locate the incorrect or duplicated competence entry on your profile and delete it.

  2. Refresh Your View: Refresh the page, or log out and log back in, so your profile reflects the removal.

  3. Search for the Correct Term: Use the search function to find and add the correctly spelled competence.

If a competence name is misspelled in the shared list itself, contact your CSM or support@cinode.com so it can be corrected. See Work with Skills for more on how the shared skill list works.

Adding a Missing Competence

If a required competence is missing in English, you can add it manually. Here’s how:

  1. Navigate to the section where competencies are managed.

  2. Create a new competence entry.

  3. Enter the desired term in English.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively manage and display skills and competencies in your Cinode CV templates, ensuring they align with your professional profile and are saved correctly.

Saving Skill Phrases with Special Characters

If you are unable to save or display a skill phrase, it may be due to the presence of special characters such as commas, parentheses, or other separators. These characters can interfere with the saving process. To resolve this:

  1. Remove any special characters from the skill text.

  2. Save the skill phrase again. For example, instead of entering "Resilient patterns (Circuit Breakers, Retries, Timeouts)," simplify the text to "Resilient patterns Circuit Breakers Retries Timeouts." This adjustment should allow the skill to be saved and displayed correctly.

Managing Competencies Displayed in the CV Template

If certain competencies are not appearing on the first page of your CV or are missing from the right-hand side, you can control their visibility through the template settings. To manage this:

  1. Scroll to the section below the "Presentation" area in the CV editor.

  2. Select the competencies and categories you want to display.

  3. Save your changes to update the CV template. This ensures that the selected competencies are displayed as intended.

Best Practices for Formatting and Saving

  • Avoid using special characters in skill names or descriptions.

  • Regularly review the competencies and categories selected in your CV template to ensure they align with your professional profile.

  • Save changes frequently to avoid losing updates.
