The Allocation introduces a more flexible, employee-centred planning experience in Cinode. Unlike the traditional project-focused advanced Planner, where each planner is tied to a single project, Allocation places employees at the centre.
It provides a clear overview of all roles each person is involved in across multiple projects, enabling more efficient team-based planning.
This view is particularly valuable for organisations where managers oversee several teams and deliverables at the same time and need a consolidated overview of each employee’s workload, availability, and commitments across projects.
To use Allocation, you need access to Cinode Business Plan and the Company Manager permission.
How Allocation works
An employee-centred planner
Allocation presents a grid-based planning view where each employee appears as a row header. All roles assigned to that employee, whether created via the Planner or as standard Project Assignments are displayed in rows beneath their name.
This makes it easy to review, compare, and balance workloads across multiple projects without switching between different planning views.
Allocation view filters explained
Understand how each filter helps you analyse and plan allocations
The Allocation view includes several filters that help you control what data is shown and how it is presented. Using these filters together allows you to analyse capacity, workload, and staffing from different perspectives.
This article explains what each filter does and when to use it.
By combining these filters, you can tailor the Allocation view to answer specific planning and resource management questions without losing clarity or control.
Period
The Period filter defines the time span shown in the Allocation view.
You can select a fixed start date and a duration (for example, 12 months). The allocation grid then displays data broken down across that selected period. Changing the period is useful when you want to switch between short-term planning and long-term forecasting.
Resolution
The Resolution filter controls how time is grouped within the selected period.
Common resolutions include monthly or weekly views. A higher-level resolution (such as months) is useful for strategic planning, while a more detailed resolution helps with operational follow-up and fine-tuning allocations.
Allocation unit
The Allocation unit filter determines how allocation values are displayed.
You can choose between:
Hours – Shows the number of allocated or available working hours per period.
FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) – Shows allocation as a proportion of a full-time workload, making it easier to compare utilisation across employees with different working hours.
Select the unit that best matches how you analyse capacity and staffing.
Team
The Team filter limits the view to one or more organisational teams.
This is useful when you want to focus on a specific department, delivery unit, or functional group instead of viewing the entire organisation.
Employees
The Employees filter allows you to include or exclude specific individuals.
Use this filter to focus on selected employees, for example when reviewing key resources, onboarding plans, or individual workloads.
Tags
The Tags filter lets you filter employees based on assigned tags.
Tags are typically used to group people by attributes such as location, seniority, contract type, or internal classifications. This helps you analyse allocation for specific subsets of your workforce.
Skills
The Skills filter narrows the view to employees who have specific skills registered in Cinode.
This is especially useful for capacity planning and forecasting when you need to understand availability for certain competencies or roles.
Availability and top-row hours
The top row for each employee shows their available time for the selected period.
These hours are calculated automatically based on:
The employee’s employment rate (for example, full-time or part-time)
The company calendar, including working days and holidays
Registered absences, such as vacation or sick leave
This ensures that the available hours always reflect the employee’s actual capacity for the selected time period.
Availability indicator (triangle)
If the total allocation across all roles does not match the available hours shown in the top row, a triangle indicator is displayed.
For example, if an employee has 160 available hours in the top row, but the sum of all allocated roles below is more or less than 160 hours, the triangle highlights this mismatch. This helps planners quickly identify over- or under-allocation.
Role types displayed
Dynamic Allocation
These roles support flexible allocation over time. You can adjust the allocation directly in the grid for each visible time period.
Standard Project Assignment roles - Fixed Allocation
These assignments have a fixed start and end date and represent a total number of hours.
The cells are visible but locked for editing, since the allocation cannot vary between time periods. This applies regardless of whether you view the planner weekly or monthly.
You can still edit these roles via the standard Edit role dialog if changes are needed.
Displaying both role types ensures managers always have a complete and accurate view of each employee’s commitments.
Absence visibility
Registered absences are taken into account when calculating availability and are reflected in the top-row hours. This helps ensure that planning decisions are made using realistic capacity figures and reduces the risk of allocating work during unavailable periods.
Employees without roles
Employees appear in Allocation even if they do not yet have any assigned roles.
In this case, their row displays only an Add role button, allowing planners to quickly assign new roles directly from the view. This ensures everyone in the team is visible and ready to be scheduled when needed.
